Annual Tournaments

Tournaments, which are held nearly year round in the Southport/Oak Island/South Brunswick Islands, include the following:

In March, St. James Plantation, (800-247-4800) hosts the St. Paddy's Day Bash. This tournament benefits Alzheimers North Carolina.

In April, Paws-Ability, (910) 579-4707, hosts the Paws-Ability Annual Golf Tournament at Cape Fear National in Brunswick Forest. Proceeds benefit animal shelters and rescue groups in Brunswick County. The Phillip A. Cook Memorial Golf Tournament, (910) 201-4195, is held at the Oak Island Golf Club and benefits WAVES 4 KIDS. Paws Place Dog Rescue, (910) 253-7662 or 253-6847, hosts the Spring Golf Outing at the Oak Island Golf Club.

In May the Southport-Oak Island Chamber of Commerce, (910) 457-6964, (800) 457-6964, hosts the Southport-Oak Island Area Golf Classic. The South Brunswick Islands Rotary Club, (910) 579-8866, FORE! KIDS golf tournament at Tiger's Eye in Ocean Ridge Plantation. Proceeds benefit local, regional and international charitable programs. The Rivers Edge Sundowners Relay for Life Team hosts a Captain's Choice Tournament at Rivers Edge Golf Course, (910) 755-3434.

In June the Kiwanis Captain's Choice Golf Tourney, (910) 253-0731, is held at the Oak Island Golf Club. First Tee of Brunswick County hosts the Future Generations Tournament, (910) 754-5288 at St. James Plantation.

In August the Brunswick County Chamber of Commerce, (910) 754-6644, (800) 426-6644, hosts the Brunswick County Chamber Golf Tournamentand women's golf clubs hold the Women's Golf Club County Championship, (910) 754-5726, which benefits Hope Harbor Home.The Lakes Country Club in boiling Spring Lakes hosts the Mayor's Cup Tournament (910) 845-2762. Proceeds from this tournament benefit a different charity each year.

In September the Oak Island Elks hosts its charity golf tournament at the Oak Island Golf and Country club. Proceeds benefit the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, the American Juvenile Diabetes foundation and the Oak Island Elks Scholarship fund. Novant Health Foundation Brunswick Medical Center hosts a tournament at the Lockwood Folly Country Club. Proceeds support the foundation. In October, the Brunswick Literacy Council Golf Tournament, (910) 754-7323, is scheduled as is the Dosher Memorial Hospital Foundation Classic (910) 457-3900. The Brunswick County Golf Tournament will be held at the Cape Fear National Golf Course in Leland. This tournament benefits the Good Shepherd Center. The Cape Fear Yacht Club Golf Tournament (910) 279-2355, benefits the Youth Sailing Program in Brunswick County.
