A trip to Ocean Isle Beach and Sunset Beach can take you from the bottom of the ocean to outer space in one day. Begin your day at the Museum of Coastal Carolina in Ocean Isle Beach — just across the Intracoastal Waterway from the mainland. Here you can imagine yourself standing on the ocean floor as you walk through The Ocean Reef. In the Sea Shore gallery you will see hundreds of shells and commune with sea creatures in the Touch Tank. Enjoy the many life-sized dioramas, watch a video about the Loggerhead Sea turtles while you are there and enjoy hands-on exhibits. You will find a great place to have lunch at Sharky's Restaurant (see our Restaurants chapter) on Causeway Drive. You can choose to eat indoors or on the screened deck that overlooks the Intracoastal Waterway. Drive a few short miles after lunch to the Ingram Planetariun (see our Attractions chapter) in Sunset Beach. Here you will begin your trip to outer space. Don't forget to stop in the exhibit hall and gift shop before you leave.
