The Waterway Art Association was established in 1991 to "encourage artistic awareness and growth both on an individual as well as a community level." The association is a mentoring group of professional and beginning artists in a non-judgmental organization. An important part of this mission is accomplished with the group's weekly paint-in program. The weekly paint-ins are open not only to association members, but any others who want to learn more about painting. The paint-ins are held on Wednesdays from 9 AM until noon. The Waterway Art Association sponsors beginning painting and life drawing classes as well as workshops in oil, acrylic, watercolor and pastels for artists of all skill levels. Lectures pertaining to art and plein-air outings are also programs offered by the Association. General membership meetings are held on the third Wednesday of the months of September through May at 11 AM. The association is supported by members' dues, the North Carolina Arts Council, the Brunswick Arts Council as well as by private donations. It also hosts an annual Judged Exhibit and Sale in May and a members show in the Fall. Check them out on Facebook and on the web page.
