April 29-30, 2017 Always held the last full weekend of April and sponsored by the Greater Holden Beach Merchants Association, this festival is Holden Beach's way of welcoming the return of spring. Arts and crafts and food abound and music emanates from the Pavilion while huge kites fly overhead. The kids' activity area includes bouncy rides and free activities. There is cardboard box paddle race, a Hermit Crab race and, on Sunday, a Running with Wings/Family Fun Run. Ever hear of a Bopple Race? A bopple is an apple that is tossed from the top the bridge and and bops in the water. The mayor and Town Commissioners do the honors of dropping the apples into the Intracoastal Waterway. Festival visitors purchase bopples for $1 each and win cash prizes for first, second and third place. Admission and parking are free.
